At the Gate
We are at the gate and going through our last security check! Boarding at 7:05am Doha time.
A Crazy Journey Home
Good evening everyone! It's 10:17pm in Doha, Qatar. We have had an unexpected night in this city due to a missed flight. When we checked in late last night in Nairobi, we were told that one of the runways was closed for construction from 12am to 6am. Due to this closure, our flight would be delayed, and delayed it was! We took off at about 2:15am instead of 1:20am and landed here in Doha at 8am. Our Chicago flight was supposed to leave at 8:05am. Needless to say, we missed our flight. We went straight to the rebooking area but, unfortunately, there wasn't another flight to our "sector" until the following morning. That would put us 24 hours behind schedule.
After about 3 hours of rebooking and getting accommodations, we were taken to our hotel. It's a great hotel with good food. We have been treated well thus far and we aren't spending the night in the airport (such a blessing)!
Since we had so much time, we gave the group the chance to head out into Doha and visit a street market. There were three of us that went and it was awesome. It looked like something straight out of Indiana Jones...it was very Moroccan. We had a great time and then came back for dinner.
After dinner, we said goodbye to Scott and Alisa (they flew out tonight) and headed to bed. Our flight leaves in the morning at the same time our original was supposed to. The flight numbers are below if you want to check in on us. I will try to update the blog but we will see what happens!
